Gani Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
About this policy
This policy covers Gani Calculator (“Gani”), a study calculator and maths-tutor mobile app published by Pinegrass Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (“Pinegrass”, “we”). It explains the little data Gani handles, why, who processes it, and the rights you hold under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act). Pinegrass is the data fiduciary for Gani.
For the corporate website and company-level privacy practices, see the Pinegrass privacy notice.
No account, no sign-up
Gani has no accounts and no login. We do not ask for your name, email, phone number, or any other identifying information, and we do not build a profile of you. The calculator, the notebook, and your calculation history work entirely on your device and are not sent to us.
What leaves your device
The only things that ever leave your device are tied to the AI tutor:
- The maths you ask for help with. When you tap “Walk me through it” (or check a step), the relevant maths text from your notebook is sent for guidance.
- A scanned problem (optional). If you photograph or pick a maths problem to scan, the image is sent once to be read into text, and is not stored afterwards.
- An anonymous device key. A random per-install identifier (not linked to you or your device’s identity) used only to apply the daily free limit and prevent abuse.
- Anonymous usage counts. Aggregate, non-identifying events (for example, that a tutoring request happened) so we can keep the service reliable. These contain no personal data.
Gani shows no ads, does not sell or share your data, and does not track you across apps or websites.
How your data is processed (third-party AI)
To guide you through a problem, Gani sends the maths text (and, if you scan, the image) to Anthropic (the maker of Claude) as a data processor on our behalf, through our secure server. Anthropic returns the guidance to the app and its handling of data is governed by Anthropic’s privacy policy. We send only the content needed for the specific feature you invoke, and our instruction to the tutor is to guide your reasoning — never to collect information about you.
Purchases (Gani Plus)
Gani Plus, the optional unlimited-tutoring subscription, is sold and billed through Google Play’s billing system. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status. Google processes your payment (we never see your card or payment details), and RevenueCat receives the purchase and an anonymous app-user identifier to tell the app whether your subscription is active. See Google’s privacy policy.
Where your data is stored
Maths text and any scanned image are processed transiently to produce a response and are not stored by us, with nothing identifying logged. The anonymous device key and the aggregate usage counts are kept on our backend (Supabase) only as long as needed to run the free limit and keep the service healthy.
Students and children
Gani is built to help students learn. If you are under 18, please use Gani with a parent or guardian’s approval, in line with the DPDP Act, 2023. Because Gani requires no account and collects no personal information, it does not knowingly gather identifying data from children, and it never serves behavioural advertising.
Your rights
Under the DPDP Act, 2023 you have the right to access, correct, and delete your personal data, to nominate someone to act on your behalf, and to grievance redressal. Because Gani holds no account and no identifying data, there is normally nothing personal to retrieve — but if you believe we hold data about you, email privacy@pinegrass.in with the request type in the subject line. We acknowledge within seven days and resolve within thirty.
Grievance Officer
Designated under section 8(9) of the DPDP Act, 2023 as the point of contact for grievance redressal on behalf of the Data Fiduciary.
